e-HOBBYLAND has been in the retail hobby business for more than 33 years. Their online model kit store is easy to navigate, provides convenient links to accessories, closeout and clearance specials and future releases, and it displays its payment and return policies on the top and bottom of its homepage.
An excellent variety of vehicle-type model kits greets the visitor to e-HOBBYLAND.com. Along the left-hand side of the home page they list products such as plastic, diecast and wood model kits, rock tumblers, radio control sets and model rocket kits. e-HOBBYLAND.com has chosen to focus on these types of items and does not offer much in the way of educational or scientific kits.
One of the most impressive features of the e-HOBBYLAND.com website is that the links to their accessories, model building supplies, tools, paints and glue, and books are clearly listed with the individual model kits on the left-hand side of the home page. On several of the sites we reviewed, we had to use the search feature to find these items. In addition to being easy to find, e-HOBBYLAND.com’s inventory of additional supplies is extensive.
e-HOBBYLAND.com’s mailing and shipping address is in Indiana. The methods of shipping used by e-HOBBYLAND.com are FedEx and the USPS with various charges depending on the shipping service requested. e-HOBBYLAND.com provides customers with a disclaimer on its “Shipping Charges” page regarding special handling requirements on some of its products. It informs customers that paint and glue can only be shipped via ground transportation; model rocket engines, igniters and starter sets are considered hazardous materials and can only be transported by USPS Parcel Post. e-HOBBYLAND.com also points out that they are unable to ship rocket engines to locations outside the U.S.
e-HOBBYLAND.com accepts PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express and gift certificates.
e-HOBBYLAND.com’s help and support features include a toll free phone number, available Monday through Saturday, an email address and a fax number. They use people’s first names (“Ask for DOUG”) as contacts with the phone numbers, giving one a sense of small-town, personal service.
If one wishes to return a product to e-HOBBYLAND.com, they are welcome to do so; however, the company does not provide more than a one-sentence explanation of its return policy on its website. It simply states that a full refund shall be provided if you are not satisfied with a product or it’s defective.
A cool feature of the website is a category they label “Super Deals”. Within this section, e-HOBBYLAND lists products and additional supplies that are marked down a significant percentage from their regular price. They also have a “Future Releases” section in which customers can order products that haven’t even been released yet by the manufactures. A disclaimer on the Future Releases page states that you will not be charged for these orders until the items have been received. e-HOBBYLAND has an excellent inventory of traditional vehicle-type model kits but lack educational products, which would round out their offerings.
